Concord Park
Charleston, South Carolina
Master Plan
DesignWorks served as the urban designer and landscape architect for the East West Partners team that won the City of Charleston developer’s competition. Two approaches were considered, each geared to providing life and energy to Calhoun Street and Liberty Square. One approach contemplated relocating the proposed African American History Museum to serve as the gateway to the district from East Bay Street and thus allowing new retail and housing to front on Liberty Square. The other approach keeps proposed development within its designated parcels and focused on active ground floor street edges.
DesignWorks is responsible for all streetscape design including a new “Charleston Alley”. With Charleston gardens serving as the inspiration, two open air courtyards, roof deck and pent house gardens are also being developed.
