Manning Central Business District Masterplan
Manning, South Carolina
Masterplan
Situated in the center of Clarendon County, in close proximity to I-95, the City of Manning serves as the County Seat. DesignWorks was hired by the City to develop a new Master Plan for the downtown, which includes the eight blocks surrounding the courthouse square. The City is located close ti Interstate 95 and there are three streets leading to downtown that have interchanges on I-95. While the basic framework for a successful small town was already in place, DesignWorks was able to make recommendations to help Manning become a thriving community.
DesignWorks held a number of meetings and workshops with City Officials, business owners, Master Plan Committee members and the general public. Based on community feedback, core design principles and extensive research, several city-wide and business district initiatives were developed. These initiatives serve to help city leaders gain control and implement strategic plans to guide what happens downtown and the surrounding areas.
After gaining a firm understanding of Manning’s context, history and existing conditions DesignWorks conducted an urban design analysis that logically demonstrates appropriate ways to enhance and invigorate the downtown. A master plan was developed to serve as a guide to improve vehicular and pedestrian circulation, provide parking solutions to accommodate both existing and proposed buildings and uses, and determine key sites for early development. DesignWorks also created design concepts that establish specific ways to enhance and implement public infrastructure and zoning guidelines.
