Site Design

An abandoned high school built in 1964 was converted to The Palmer Campus of Trident Technical College in 1986. DesignWorks was commissioned in 1998 to prepare a master plan that converting the high school into a college campus in addition to adding a new administration building / library.

By revising the existing parking lot, DesignWorks was able to create an entry to the campus by connecting the new administration building to an existing city park. The tree lined avenue directed views toward the new building, inspired by the historic smokestacks in the distance. In revising the parking lot, 42 extra parking spaces were added to the plan as well as 38 extra trees.

The existing campus was void of any type of outdoor space. The master plan provides for three outdoor spaces that offer the student various choices for socializing, relaxing, or studying.
