Butterfly Garden
Daniel Island, South Carolina
Neighborhood Park
The public realm master plan DesignWorks created for Daniel Island contains not only, waterfront parks, recreation amenity centers, greenways, foot and bike paths, and an extensive annual street tree program, it also includes one acre focal point parks for each neighborhood. Great care is taken throughout each project to use existing trees and to protect wildlife habitat while providing diverse forms of recreation and improving the overall quality of life for the residents.
The butterfly garden, is a two acre focal point park nestled within the Daniel Island Public Realm. This park is entirely devoted to attracting and hosting butterflies, and includes thousands of annuals and perennials and native trees and shrubs. The park also serves as the community’s water retention, capturing run-off from the neighboring streets. Aquatics and grasses were planted to soften the lake banks and now serve as habitat for nesting birds. |
